With products and solutions deployed in over 170 countries, Huawei is serving more than one third of the world’s population. In 2013, Huawei’s sales revenue reached around $39.5 bn, a year-on-year increase of around 11.6% (in USD). Of this revenue, 65 % came from outside China.
Huawei has invested a total of $24.9 bn in R&D over the past 10 years, including a $5.06 bn investment in 2013, which is about 12.8% of the year’s sales revenue.
It has over 150 000 employees, 45 % of whom specialise in R&D. Around 70 % of its overseas employees are recruited locally.
Huawei has joined over 170 standards organisations, in which it currently holds more than 185 positions. In 2013, it filed over 5 000 standards proposals. It filed a total of 44 168 patent applications in China, 14 555 Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) patent applications and 18 791 patent applications outside of China.
